The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce is a
voluntary organization of business and professional men and women
joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic and
commercial progress of our community.
The area's economic well-being is directly
related to the caliber of work that is accomplished by The Chamber.
Therefore, The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce has a major
impact on business, income, and future growth of the area.
There are two primary functions of a chamber of
commerce:
-
To act as a spokesperson for the business and
professional community, and translate into action the group
thinking of its members, and;
-
To render specific services of a type that
can not be effectively rendered by any other community
organization both to its members and to the community as a
whole.
Vision Statement
To be recognized as the proactive voice of business in efforts to
maximize potential for the success and profitability of its members
and as the leader in creating and strengthening collaborative
relationships to foster community economic development and to
enhance the quality of life in central Illinois.
Mission Statement
The mission of The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce is to
enhance the business climate and to promote and stimulate orderly
economic growth in Sangamon County and environs for the benefit of
its members and the community.
Structure
The Chamber is comprised of a board of directors,
staff and
volunteers. The Chamber strengthens the community by identifying
needs, problems, and opportunities. It then develops programs to
solve those problems and satisfy the needs.
Committees of volunteers from member firms help the Chamber
implement and achieve its goals. The Chamber regularly reviews its
programs, goals and results to bring about a healthier climate in
which business and the community can grow and prosper.
